Rumours surrounding the missing Bell of Batoche are making their way across the Prairies.

Recently, Manitoba Métis Federation president David Chartrand announced that a prisoner had given him clues about where the historic artifact might be. Then, whispers were heard on a wagon trek last spring that the bell could be returned as early as the summer.

Mark Collette is the site manager for the Batoche National Historic Site. He feels those people who have the bell may be reluctant to turn it in, for fear that they may be charged.

He says the bell was originally stolen from the site by soldiers and transported to a museum in Ontario.
