Saskatchewan’s Northern Affairs minister is explaining why the province waited before it committed conditional funding to the proposed fish processing plant in Prince Albert.

Yesterday, the province announced $350,000 in conditional funding for the project.

The fishers had earlier unsuccessfully approached Investment Saskatchewan for funding.

Buckley Belanger acknowledges that body is a subsidiary of the Crown Investments Corporation, but stresses that it makes decisions independent from cabinet.

Having said that, Belanger admits the fishers now have a better business plan than they did earlier in the year, especially in regards to the building they intend to use for the plant.

Belanger also says all the other conditional funding the fishers have secured improved the case for the province getting on board with funding of its own.
