Belanger Defends Professional Relationships

An NDP cabinet minister insists the relationship he had with a former civil servant accused of harassing female co-workers was strictly professional.

The Saskatchewan Party has been alleging Buckley Belanger and Murdoch Carriere were close friends when they worked in the Environment department.

The Opposition is insinuating that a friendship might explain why Carriere was given a 275-thousand-dollar settlement after being found guilty of assault — and why harassment complaints against Carriere weren’t dealt with earlier.

Belanger says his interaction with Carriere was no different than any other relationship he has with someone in government.
