A northern Saskatchewan mayor says Canada Post needs to do a better job of staffing a local post office.

Beauval mayor Alex Maurice says it has been two weeks since their regular worker went on stress leave.

He says, since that time, there’s only been one day wheen a full-time postmaster was brought in to help.

The mayor says people have ordered presents for their children and packages aren`t getting through.

He adds people with fixed incomes are worried about their cheques.

A spokesman for Canada Post says steps have been taken to remedy the situation.

Malcolm French acknowledges the sudden departure of the worker disrupted regular service.

However, he says the corporation did its best to bring in other workers, and mail was flowing again by last Friday.

He says parcels and packages should be getting through.

French adds Canada Post apologizes for any inconvenience.
