Beauval Mayor Looking For More Consultation

A northern leader says he ‘s worried the provincial government isn’t consulting his community adequately enough over a proposed coal-drilling project.

Alex Maurice is both the mayor of Beauval and a metis local leader in the area.

He says an exploration company is planning to drill 26 holes on a section of land used by trappers.

Maurice says he and others want to know where the big holes will be, and how it will affect the land.

However it seems that land is also up for development by forestry groups and Maurice says the government doesn’t seem interested in consulting residents twice.

Maurice says he’s talked to Minister June Draude about the issue however, and she’s told him she will visit his community at the end of the month.
