Representatives from 25 northern Aboriginal communities are sharing their thoughts today about what should be done with spent nuclear fuel.
The Nuclear Waste Management Organization is seeking input about this issue, and is hosting a 3-day retreat in Beauval because of northerners’ extensive experience with uranium mining.
Representatives from the University of Saskatchewan will join the northern leaders to discuss the impact of nuclear waste disposal and storage on local economies, health and spirituality.
The NWMO will study the views gathered from people across Canada in order to make a recommendation to Parliament late next year.
