Beatty Happy with Cabinet Appointment

The first Aboriginal woman to be elected to the legislature doesn’t share the FSIN’s opinion on this past Friday’s cabinet shuffle.

Cumberland MLA Joan Beatty was named the minister in charge of culture, youth and recreation. She was also given the role of provincial secretary.

While the FSIN feels Beatty and Athabasca MLA Buckley Belanger should have been given more high-profile portfolios, Beatty says her new role in cabinet is a good place to get her feet wet.

She also points out that there are typically several cabinet shuffles over the course of a government’s 4-year term, and says it’s possible she will be appointed to a more prominent cabinet position within that timeframe.
