RCMP are now saying three people died in a head-on collision last night near Duck Lake — not four as originally reported.
The accident took place around 10:00 pm on Highway 11.
Authorities says a northbound station wagon carrying one person collided with a Dodge Neon with four occupants.
The driver of the station wagon, a 34-year-old man from the Beardy’s/Okemasis First Nation, died in the crash.
Also killed was the driver of the Neon, a 19-year-old woman, and a 30-year-old female passenger.
Both women were from Candle Lake.
RCMP spokesperson Heather Russell says no one is sure what caused the accident but authorities are examining every possible lead, including one theory that one of the vehicles was trying to avoid hitting a deer.
A 22-year-old man from Duck Lake who was riding in the Neon has been transferred to hospital in Calgary.
His injuries are described as very serious.
Also injured was a 35-year-old man from Beardy’s, who was also in the Neon.
He is being treated in a Saskatoon hospital with what are described as non-life-threatening injuries.
