Battlefords A Potential Site For Nuclear Facility

A mining company is mulling over whether or not to build a uranium processing facility in the province.
Cameco spokesman Lyle Krahn confirms the company is examining several locations in Saskatchewan as possible locations for a new refinery to be built, including North Battleford.
Krahn says in ten years’ time the world may be using more uranium than it does now, and his company wants to be ready.
He explains most uranium ore is currently processed in Ontario, and Cameco feels some of that could be done closer to the source of the material itself.
Krahn won’t put a timeline on when the company will make a decision.
However, he says any processing facility could take as long as a decade to become fully functional.
