The northern community of Wollaston Lake is struggling to repair the barge that services that area.

Last Thursday, supplies waiting to make their way to the village and the Hatchet Lake First Nation were unable to get through after the craft broke down.

Band spokesman Ed Benoanie says workers are attempting to fix the transmission on the ship, but it has been difficult because of the transport’s age.

Benoanie says 200,000 litres of fuel are waiting to get across the lake, in addition to lumber and other supplies.

He says the government has promised to keep tabs on the situation.

Benoanie adds the clock is ticking, because the ice will soon start forming on the lake.
