Environmental industry leaders want Aboriginal people more involved in the field — and a couple of First Nations are already taking steps to do that.

Yesterday, Cowessess First Nation Chief Gordon Lerat spoke about his reserve’s plan to generate wind power.

He was speaking at the Saskatchewan Environment Industry and Managers Association forum in Saskatoon attended by industrial players and Aboriginal leaders.

Lerat says his band is working with the George Gordon First Nation and in talks with Sask Power.

The chief says the venture could make his First Nation money, and it is also environmentally-friendly.

Lerat says wind turbines could be built in the next couple of years.
