About 250 Treaty 4 and Treaty 6 chiefs and officials are expected in the Battlefords for duty to consult meetings next week.

Those meetings, hosted by the Battlefords Agency Tribal Chiefs, will be held Monday and Tuesday.

The main goal is to hammer out a common position among chiefs on the duty to consult.

According to BATC Executive Director Neil Sasakamoose, the secondary goal is to reach agreement on mapping First Nations’ overlapping traditional territories.

Sasakamoose says the BATC has been working on setting up the meetings for about three weeks.
