The province is stepping away from plans to develop hundreds of new cottages inside Meadow Lake Provincial Park.

Saskatchewan Environment’s manager of cottage expansion, Gil Happ, says the decision was made after three First Nations in the area opposed the move.

He says the band’s concerns centred around how the expansion might affect traditional land users.

Happ says the department is now looking at other potential destinations for the expansion, including La Loche.
