Elders with the Lac La Ronge Indian Band living in La Ronge and Sucker River have seen a monthly subsidy they receive from the band cut in half.

Chief Tammy-Cook Searson says she knows this has created a lot of hardship for these elders, but the subsidy programs in La Ronge and Sucker River are in a deficit position.

The money is distributed to senior members of the band to help them pay for basic necessities, like groceries.

She says band officials have already held a meeting with the elders to explain the situation, and another gathering will happen in the near future.

Cook-Searson is also hopeful they can come up with a more satisfactory resolution.
