Residents of the Black Lake First Nation voted in favor of ordering a new band election at a special assembly held last week.

The assembly was called to render a final decision in an appeal of last January’s band election.

Two candidates that ran unsucessfully for the band’s top job were responsible for the appeal.

According to some band members, Freddie Throassie and Donald Sayazie launched their appeal because of beliefs that there was a violation of election campaign procedures.

John Throassie was asked to head up last week’s special assembly. He says the results were very close.

Throassie says under band election act rules, nomination meetings must now be held by November 28th.

Throassie warns a failure to comply will most likely result in legal action.
