A Lac La Ronge Indian Band councillor says her band is now in a better position to diagnose and treat band members with a gambling addiction.

The band and the western office of the Canadian Training Institute recently co-hosted a 10-day training session on gambling dependency counselling.

Tammy Searson says her band now has 4 more people that have the training to recognize the signs of a gambling addiction and offer some help.

Searson says it will still be up to gambling addicts to take the first step and admit they have a problem.

Searson says it’s too hard to accurately say how many band members have a gambling addiction, but notes that this is growing problem throughout society.
