The chief of the Fishing Lake First Nation has given his blessing to a new plan intended to alleviate water levels in the area.
The province announced yesterday it would sever sections of Highway 310 and the Hazel Lake road to lower the water level at Fishing Lake.
For several weeks now, cabin owners in the area have been calling on the province to address the flood-like conditions along the shore line.
Chief Allan Paquachan says he likes the plan, and supports the cabin owners’ desire to clean up the area.
He also says the move should help protect the eco-system.
Government officials say the move should bring the lake water down approximately two-and-a-half feet below the spring water level.
