La Ronge Provincial Court was the scene of a bail hearing today for two teenagers accused of murdering a young band member from the Big Stone reserve.
Both boys were ultimately released from custody.
One of the youths, who has a previous criminal record, was released into a 24-hour custody group home in southern Saskatchewan. He also elected to be tried by judge and jury — which, by law, means the other three suspects must be tried in the same manner.
The second youth was released into his family’s custody in Hall Lake.
They were arrested after 15-year-old Johnny Abel Venne’s lifeless body was pulled from the Montreal River on July 10th.
Police charged four teenagers with second-degree murder and interfering with human remains.
A third youth was previously released on bail.
The fourth suspect is scheduled to appear in court on August 14th for his bail hearing. He will remain in a detention centre in Prince Albert.
The other three youths are scheduled to make their next court appearance on July 30th in La Ronge.
