Bad News For Timber Bay Boarding School Survivors

The federal government has decided that survivors of a northern Saskatchewan children’s home do not qualify for compensation.

The Lac La Ronge Indian Band has been petitioning to have the Timber Bay boarding school added to the list of eligible schools under the residential schools settlement agreement.

But sources say that request has been denied.

Band officials are apparently questioning whether the government has correctly interpreted its own criteria to qualify under the agreement.

Chief Tammy Cook-Searson is reportedly refusing to accept the decision as final, and will continue to research the band’s options.

A formal statement from the band is expected later today.
