A man accused of killing a 10-month-old girl on the Carry the Kettle First Nation is making a court appearance in Indian Head today.
21-year-old Jamie Justin Courtney is also the suspect in the violent sexual assault of a 21-year-old woman.
The RCMP say both incidents took place Saturday morning at a reserve residence.
Both victims were hospitalized following the attacks. The woman was treated and released, but the infant died from her injuries on Sunday.
RCMP spokesman Sgt. Brad Kaeding says the three individuals involved are related to each, but he won’t specify the exact nature of their relationship.
Kaeding also won’t offer details on how the baby girl died, but acknowledges an autopsy has been completed.
Courtney was initially charged with aggravated assault, but is now facing charges of second-degree murder and sexual assault causing bodily harm.
