AUCC Mulling Over Its Ties To FNUC

The board of the Association of Universities and Colleges of Canada will be discussing the situation at the First Nations University of Canada today.

The AUCC will decide whether the university should remain a member of the association at a meeting this afternoon.

A spokesman for the association would not say whether FNUC officials would be present for today’s meeting, or whether the association had received any correspondence from the university in recent weeks.

The AUCC had given the university an ultimatum to comply with the recommendations of an independent task force, or risk losing its accreditation.

Chiefs at the recent FSIN assembly voted to reduce the size of the university’s board — although, not to the extent recommended by the task force.

The chiefs also decided to keep a heavy political presence on the board, contrary to the wishes of the task force.
