The Saskatchewan Party candidate for the Athabasca riding is responding to rumours he was muzzled by leader Brad Wall during the provincial election campaign.

Phil Elliot says those reports are untrue, and it was inexperience with the media that prompted him not to do interviews while campaigning.

He says, in hindsight, it appears a number of voters didn’t know who he was.

Elliot finished with 992 votes. NDP incumbent Buckley Belanger was re-elected with 1871 votes.

Elliot says he’s pleased with the electorate’s decision to vote in a Saskatchewan Party government, and he thanks his supporters for all their help and well-wishes.

He also says he may run again in four years.
