A manager with the Athabasca Economic Development and Training Corporation says the impact of the flood at the Cigar Lake mine won’t truly be felt for some time to come.

Geoff Gay says the corporation was planning to open a new factory at Points North later this month. However, news of the disaster will likely affect that.

Gay says the corporation has spent a lot of time and money building the plant, which will fabricate concrete liners for underground tunnels.

He says they still plan to get the plant up and running, but its market may have to change somewhat.

Gay isn’t sure how the disaster will impact job prospects for the estimated 15 workers needed to run the plant.

He notes it’s a guessing game until they get a call from Cameco.
