A northern business leader is applauding yesterday’s pledge by the provincial government to pour $350,000 into a proposed fish processing plant.

Athabasca Economic Development and Training Corporation chairman Glen Strong says fishers in the Far North will feel the positive effects of the Prince Albert operation once it’s up and running.

He points out Lake Athabasca produces 1.5 million pounds of fish each year alone.

Strong admits many residents were disappointed to discover the plant would be situated so far south, but he believes the Prince Albert location will work out in the end.

Strong adds many others in the Athabasca basin are interested in the value-added features the plant has to offer.

He hopes the establishment of the plant will be the first in a long line of positive business ventures for Far North residents.
