Authorities have decided to stay a charge against a prominent northerner.
This past May, former Cumberland House mayor Dale McAuley was charged with assault over an altercation that allegedly took place in front of the community’s arena.
McAuley was allowed to run in the Metis Nation of Saskatchewan election the following month.
He ended up finishing second in the battle for MNS Vice-President, losing by 372 votes to Allan Morin.
Prosecutors officially stayed the charge on June 28th — a day after the election.
