The president of Areva says it would be a mistake for the NDP government to scrap the northern overtime exemption.

Don Ching says the measure has proven itself as an effective tool for his company.

Ching says Areva has put a lot of time and effort into collective bargaining agreements with the union covering the mining workers, and he believes changes to the exemption simply aren’t needed.

He also says a change to the legislation would create a “huge disruption” for his company.

Meanwhile, Ching is weighing in on the present situation at the flooded-out Cigar Lake mining operation.

He says officials in charge of the clean-up could have an announcement in the next month or so.
