A prominent Aboriginal journalist says northern teenagers looking for employment shouldn’t forget about the media.

Rick Harp is the host of “Contact” — a current affairs program on the Aboriginal Peoples Television Network.

Speaking this week at the Peter Ballantyne Cree Nation’s role model conference, Harp says opportunities for Aboriginal people have slowly improved since he first entered the industry.

Harp says First Nations and Metis people are being accepted more and more on T.V. — and that bodes well for the future. Still, he admits there’s a long way to go.

Harp is currently stationed in Winnipeg but received his training in Ontario.
