The Lac La Ronge Indian Band’s newly-elected chief and council have postponed their council meetings until further notice because of a number of appeals of the recent band election.
The band’s electoral officer, Charles Whitecap, says six appeals were filed within the 30-day appeal window allowed by the band’s election act.
He can’t get into specifics, but does say that two appeals were filed in Hall Lake, two in Little Red, one in Grandmother’s Bay and one in La Ronge.
The chief of the Beardy’s/Okemasis First Nation, Gary Littlepine, has been appointed to hear the appeals.
A date for the appeal hearings will be announced within the next week.
