Election appeals have been filed at the Red Pheasant First Nation.

Some residents are alleging problems occurred with several mail-in ballots during the band’s recent election on March 8th.

Indian Affairs spokesman Trevor Sutter says the current chief is still being recognized by the department, but INAC is asking for clarification on the situation.

Sutter notes this isn’t the first time problems have come up with the mail-in ballots at Red Pheasant.

The results of an election on the reserve three years ago were overturned following similar complaints.
