A court has ruled that two ex-cops can appeal the findings of a public inquiry that concluded they had an Aboriginal teenager in their custody before his death.

Larry Hartwig and Brad Senger believe the judge presiding over the Neil Stonechild inquiry overstepped his jurisdiction when he made his conclusions.

The ex-officers also argue Justice David Wright’s decision essentially attached criminal and civil liability in the Stonechild case to them.

The Saskatchewan Court of Appeal has agreed to hear their application to have the incriminating findings of the inquiry thrown out.
