Anticipation Builds for Northern Talent Showcase

A variety of singers and musical performers from across the North will take centre stage in La Ronge today at a new talent showcase.

This is the first year for the “Talent of the North” show, which is being run in conjunction with the La Ronge Trappers’ Festival this weekend.

The show is patterned after the very successful “Voices of the North” show, which runs every year in Prince Albert.

Sam Halkett from the Little Red River reserve is one of the performers taking part in the show today.

He says he’s glad to see this type of event taking place in a northern community and including northern youth.

There will be two separate shows held today at the Jonas Roberts Memorial Community Centre — one at 4 o’clock this afternoon and another one at 8 o’clock this evening.

Incidentally, the 4 pm show will be broadcast live on MBC.

The shows will be hosted by provincial cabinet minister Joan Beatty and Errol Kinistino from the TV show “North of 60”.
