Another Setback For Pulp And Paper Mill

Domtar has decided not to try to re-open the Prince Albert pulp and paper mill.
The provincial government announced Domtar’s intentions today after months of negotiations.
Domtar took over the facility through a merger with Weyerhaeuser.
However, minister responsible Eldon Lautermilch says it’s expected that Domtar will now take steps to dispose of some or all of its Saskatchewan assets.
Lautermilch says the province remains willing to see the mill re-opened.
The government also says it will now begin the process of seeking expressions of interest for the wood supply.
The timber will become available for re-allocation should the mill remain closed for two years.
The mill was closed last year, throwing 980 people out of work.
