The chairwoman of New North says she’s pleased with how things went at last week’s Northern Justice Symposium in Prince Albert.

Ina Fietz-Ray says attendance was full for the event and nearly everyone stayed right up to the end.

The mayor of Sandy Bay says she was struck by how well youth delegates at the event explained issues relevant to them.

Fietz-Ray feels young voices need to be listened to more by northern leaders in the effort to reduce crime rates in the North.

She also says the work of building bridges between communities and the RCMP needs to continue.

Fietz-Ray adds she was encouraged to hear that crime rates have really fallen in some communities, such as Pinehouse.

She says other northern centres need to find out what residents there are doing.
