Northerners are mourning the loss of another long-time Federation of Saskatchewan Indian Nations senator.

Senator Jonas Lariviere of Canoe Lake passed away yesterday at the age of 100.

Not surprisingly, he was the community’s oldest living resident.

Lariviere was among five individuals credited with forming the FSIN, and was also considered an instrumental figure in the creation of the Meadow Lake Tribal Council.

Wake services begin today at the Canoe Lake Miksew School.

Funeral Services will be held this Thursday at 2:00 p.m.

Last week, Senator Myles Venne of La Ronge passed away at the age of 89.
