Around 60 people are expected to be in attendance for this weekend’s Sandy Point gathering in the northwest.

The event is held on an annual basis to commemorate and remember the west-side families who made their home at the historic settlement  located near Ile-a-la-Crosse.

Co-organizer for the event, Louie Gardiner, says the gathering is an important reminder of how First Nations and Metis people lived in harmony for so many years.

He says the point of the reunion is to preserve history and tradition in the region.

This year’s event is actually taking place near Green Lake. Gardiner says the move was made to accommodate an elder, who has difficulty travelling.
