Annual Elders Walk To Hit Northern Communities

A large delegation of elders has assembled at the Flying Dust First Nation today for an annual march to bring awareness to drug and alcohol addictions.
“Kokums and Moshums Against Drugs and Alcohol” was first staged in 2004.
Wes Landry of La Ronge is one of the participants in today’s event.
He says he drove down to support the walk because he believes deeply in its message, especially considering “all the problems we’re having” with drugs and alcohol.
Landry says the main part of the walk will begin tomorrow, as most of today has been set aside for traditional ceremonies and a feast.
Beginning tomorrow, the walkers will head to the Waterhen Lake and Canoe Lake First Nations.
On Wednesday, they will be in Buffalo River and Birch Narrows.
They will then head to Clearwater River and Hall Lake on Thursday.
The march concludes Friday with stops in La Ronge and the Little Red River reserve.
