Saskatchewan Liberal Leader David Karwacki says the lives of First Nations women are at risk because of the provincial government’s inaction on justice reform.

Karwacki was responding to Amnesty International’s report on the high number of missing or murdered Aboriginal women in Canada.

Karwacki says the Calvert government has taken no action when it comes to implementing justice reform to protect First Nations women’s rights.

The Commission on First Nations and Metis Peoples and Justice Reform handed in its final report this past June after years of consultations.

Karwacki says the lack of services — such as family violence programs or addictions services — are a health issue that the NDP government should take seriously.

Karwacki adds that status women between the ages of 25 to 44 are five times more likely to die violently than non-Aboriginal women.
