Jury selection has wrapped up at the North Battleford trial of an Alberta man who’s accused of murdering a woman from Onion Lake.

None of the jurors are of First Nations ancestry.

41-year-old Gordon Dwight Hurley of Beaverlodge was initially charged with first-degree murder, but that has since been downgraded to second-degree murder.

Hurley has pleaded “not guilty” to the charge.

He was arrested and charged several months after cleaning staff discovered the body of 20-year-old Jarita Naistus in a Lloydminster hotel room almost two years ago.

The RCMP have not said how Naistus died.

The trial is expected to last as long as four weeks.
