All-Weather Roads Issue Raised In House Of Commons

Northern Saskatchewan’s Member of Parliament is calling on the Conservatives to come through with a plan to help fund the all-weather road network in the Far North.
Gary Merasty brought up the issue Friday in the House of Commons.
Merasty noted economic development officials in the Far North met with the Saskatchewan Conservative caucus in September to spell out the case for an all-season road in the Athabasca region.
Merasty says the Saskatchewan Conservative caucus members suggested their strong support for this project — but with the arrival of the construction season in the North, there is still no movement from the federal government.
The provincial government has committed $28 million to the project — roughly half the estimated cost.
Merasty says he’s going to continue lobbying the Conservatives to take action, especially after getting no response to his statement in the House.
This is the second time Merasty has brought up the all-weather road network issue in the House of Commons. He made a statement in the Commons back in September.
