Alberta In No Hurry To Start Building Road Link

A representative with the Alberta government says that province is still very much committed to the road link from Fort McMurray to La Loche — even though it still hasn’t yet set a date for the beginning of construction.

Alberta Infrastructure and Transportation spokesperson Heather McLachlan says initial planning stages are underway, and must be complete before construction can begin.

McLachlan says the work must also be supported by Alberta’s three-year capital plan, which at this time, it is not.

The Saskatchewan government expects its 27-kilometre portion of the road will be finished by next September.

A total of 16 kilometres has been completed in the last year.
