A family-owned business from Edmonton has purchased all the sawmill equipment from the Wapawekka Lumber mill.

Millar Western Forest Products successfully bid on the machinery at an auction last week.

Officials with the business say they intend to box up the equipment, including the shell of the building itself, and ship it to Alberta. However, they’re not sure when that will be.

Wapawekka Lumber was a joint venture between Weyerhaeuser, Montreal Lake Cree Nation, Peter Ballantyne Cree Nation and the Lac La Ronge Indian Band.

It closed in 2006.
