Ahtahkakoop Residents Told To Boil Their Water

A precautionary boil water advisory has been issued on the Ahtahkakoop First Nation.

A notice that has been circulated on the reserve says “the safety of the drinking water supply cannot be ensured at this time due to mechanical problems with the water treatment plant”.

The advisory only applies to buildings connected to the reserve’s water distribution line.

Band members are also being told to notify the local health centre if they accidentally drank the water and are not feeling well.

At last word, the distribution line had been flushed, meaning the water has been deemed safe for bathing, washing hands and doing laundry.

A water quality technician will be starting a series of tests today.

It’s believed the trouble started yesterday, but details are still scarce because band officials haven’t been immediately available for comment.
