The chief of the Muscowpetung First Nation says he’s sad it took a roadblock before Indian Affairs listened to his band’s concerns.

Chief Todd Cappo says a blockade on Highway 27 was taken down yesterday after an agreement was reached with Indian Affairs to help get his band out of third party management.

Cappo says he met with INAC regional director Riel Bellegarde in Swift Current, where the agreement was reached.

He’s happy the dispute is over, but upset it took a roadblock to get some action.

Meanwhile, INAC spokesman Trevor Sutter says he’s also glad the roadblock is down.

However, he says diplomacy should be the first option for bands in need.

Sutter says the agreement lays out a series of conditions the band must meet to move into co-management.
