Famous Inuk singer/songwriter Susan Aglukark says literacy forums like the one in Regina this week help break down barriers so a solution can be found faster to illiteracy.

Aglukark was one of the keynote speakers yesterday in Regina, which is one of nine sites hosting the Pan-Canadian Interactive Literacy Forum.

The forum links communities by live video feed.

Aglukark says growing up in a small, remote community in Nunavut made her feel like she wasn’t good enough to reach her dreams.

She hopes her story will instill in children that they can do whatever they want to do if they go to school.

Aglukark says this forum shows others growing up in Nunavut or any small community that their issues are just as important, and very similar, to those of people living in urban centres.
