The Mining Association of Canada has signed a letter of intent with the country’s largest First Nations organization.

Yesterday in Ottawa, Assembly of First Nations National Chief Phil Fontaine announced the AFN would work with the association to address issues of mutual concern.

Some of those topics include land claims resolution, better consultation, land use planning and jobs.

Association spokesman Pierre Gratton says his group has also established contact with the Metis National Council about this issue.

Gratton says a successful arrangement should give mining companies a better sense of certainty when operating on traditional Aboriginal land.
