AFN Looking To Activate First Nations’ Electorate

A gathering is being held in Winnipeg this week to discuss how to increase First Nations’ participation in federal elections.
The forum is being co-hosted by the Assembly of First Nation and Elections Canada.
The aim of the get-together is to develop strategies that will encourage Native participation in federal votes.
Much of the forum will be devoted to listening to First Nations citizens’ take on the federal electoral process, including their personal experience.
Canada’s chief electoral officer Jean-Pierre Kingsley is scheduled to address the gathering today.
He spoke to Canada’s chiefs about electoral reform earlier this year during the AFN assembly in Yellowknife.
The meeting in Winnipeg wraps up tomorrow.
