AFN Desires Meeting With Conservative Government

Assembly of First Nations national chief Phil Fontaine is congratulating Stephen Harper and the Conservatives for their election win Monday night.
Fontaine maintains the AFN remained non-partisan throughout the campaign, although it did seek clear commitments on its agenda and priorities.
Fontaine says his group was consistently re-assured by the Conservatives that they would respect the objectives and targets of the Kelowna Accord and would implement the residential schools compensation agreement.
He says he will seek a meeting with Harper and the Tories in the near future to discuss how the new government will move forward on these commitments.
