Assembly of First Nations National Chief Phil Fontaine is calling on all Canadians to support and join First Nations in challenging the federal government to address the obstacles facing Aboriginal people.
A national day of action will take place on May 29th.
Fontaine says despite a similar day of protest last year, the Conservative government has not responded to the poverty and harsh conditions that continue to claim the lives of young Native people.
He says Ottawa has to implement lasting solutions based on equality and respect, and remove the unfair treatment of First Nation citizens in this country.
Fontaine also pledges to issue a set of “concrete proposals” in the next few weeks that would help provide a “real and lasting improvement” in the lives of First Nations citizens.
He’s challenging the Tory government to do the same.
