A $1.4 million affordable housing project has officially opened in Sandy Bay.

The provincial government is funding the establishment of five new duplexes in the community.

Each of the duplexes consists of two three-bedroom units.

The first building was moved to Sandy Bay earlier this month.

The remaining structures will be in place in the next few weeks.

Community Resources Minister Kevin Yates says this project will help meet the growing need for family rental housing in the northern village.
