A former La Ronge Mountie accused of sexual assault has taken the stand in his own defence at his trial in Prince Albert.

Cst. Thierry Jacques says he met the alleged victim outside a bar in La Ronge sometime before the night in question.

He says they went back to his place, had some drinks, and then engaged in sexual activity.

Jacques maintains that was when stains with his DNA ended up on the woman’s shirt — which has been a key piece of evidence in this trial.

He says there was no sexual activity between them the night the woman alleges she was assaulted by him at the La Ronge RCMP detachment.

Jacques claims she made advances and asked him to get her out of jail, but he refused her.

He also denies ever telling a guard at the jail that “If I go down, you’re going down with me.”
